After taking this week off, the UFC will be back in action for its second fight night at UFC Apex. UFC Vegas 62 will take place on October 15 with 13 bouts, featuring Alexa Grasso vs. Viviane Araujo in the main event. However, the promotion is still looking for an opponent in a featherweight tit for Joanderson Brito, as Melsik Bagdasaryn had to withdraw from the fight due to a broken hand.
The following are my predictions for UFC Vegas 62. ESPN+ will stream the events starting at 4 p.m. (ET), with the main card at 7 p.m.
Alexa Grasso vs. Viviane Aruajo
This Grasso-Aruajo match has been in the making for some time, and it is a pretty high-stakes women’s flyweight bout. Grasso (14-3) is ranked fifth as a flyweight. Meanwhile, Araujo (11-3)is eighth in the division.
Grasso, 6-3 in the division, is on a three-fight win streak. The 29-year-old is coming off the best win of her career in the promotion as she submitted Joanne Wood at the 3:57 mark in the opening round. It was her first finish in the UFC and just the fifth of her career.
Araujo, 5-2 in the UFC, defeated Andrea Lee via unanimous decision the last time out. It was the 35-year-old’s third victory in four trips in the octagon. It was also her fourth straight outing that came down to a decision.
I expect this to be an outstanding battle as the two fighters are very similar. Grasso has been slightly better recently, and his a very striker when standing up as well as a little better defensively. However, my best bet is that the bout will go the distance.
Prediction: Grasso via Decision
Best Bets: Fight To Go Distance
Jordan Wright vs. Dusko Todorovic
This middleweight bout is between two fighters that have struggled since moving to the UFC. Wright (12-3, 2-3 UFC) is coming off consecutive losses to Marc-Andre Barriault and Bruno Silva. Wright did not get out of the first round in either match, and all five of his fights in the promotion have ended before the third round.
Meanwhile, Todorovic (11-3, 2-3 UFC) has lost three of his last four trips into the octagon. The 28-year-old Serbian has lost three of his previous four bouts ad was knocked out by Chidi Njokuani just before the conclusion of the first round. Four of his five UFC matches have ended prior to the final bell.
I like Wright to pull a small upset as he is more aggressive and accurate. He is also a pretty complete fighter. Plus, all 12 of his fights have ended via finish, while all but two of Todorovic’s fight has not gone to the judges.
Prediction: Wright To Win
Best Bet: Fight To End via finish
Other Prediction
Daniel Rodriguez over Neil Magny
Victor Henry over Raphael Assuncao
Cub Swanson over Jonathan Martinez
Pete Rodriguez TKO/DQ/KO over Mike Jackson
