UFC Fight Night: Ortega vs Rodriguez Betting Preview and Predictions

Ortega vs Rodriguez

The UFC returns to action on Long Island this weekend with an amazing lineup of fights. The July 16th card will be headlined by Featherweight contenders Ortega vs Rodriguez. Both are top contenders in the division and have recently fought a champion or former champion.

I’ll give you a breakdown of three of my favorite fights of the night, as well as a detailed breakdown of the main event. Keep reading to find out the best bets for the weekend!

Charles Jourdain vs Shane Burgos

Both of these fighters are coming off of victories over very skilled opponents. Jourdain’s most recent fight was a brawl with Lando Vannata that did not last very long, as Jourdain submitted him in the first round. Burgos is coming off of a decision victory against Billy Quarintillo, an up and coming prospect at 145 pounds.

This fight is going to be a full on scrap. Both guys throw with bad intentions, and Burgos’ reach seems to give him the advantage. Despite that, I’m going with Jourdain to win the fight. I think alot of people are underestimating Jourdain’s abilities, and I believe Charles has more paths to victory than Burgos does.

Prediction: Jourdain by sub
Best Bet: Jourdain straight up +140

Punahele Soriano vs Dalcha Lungiambula

Punahele Soriano started off his UFC career in spectacular fashion. HIs first two UFC fights resulted in first round KO victories for the American fighter, making him an exciting prospect in this middleweight division. Since then Soriano has had two tough decision loses after being out wrestled and out grappled by a significant margin.

In his next fight he’ll get someone who will want to stand and bang with him. That would be the Congo’s Dalcha Langiumbula. Dalcha is a stand up fighter who is 2-3 in his last five fights, although one of those loses was in a tough fight against Magomed Ankalaev, one of the best 205 pound fighters in the world.

In this fight I see Soriano with the speed and power advantage. Dalcha is a strong and skilled fighter, but he’s a touch shorter than Punahele and i believe Soriano will have the speed advantage. I like Soriano to win via finish here in dramatic fashion

Prediction: Soriano by KO
Best Bet: Soriano by KO +140

Ricky Simon vs Jack Shore

This fight is a true test for these bantamweight challengers. Ricky Simon and Jack Shore are both up and coming monsters in this 135 pound division. Shore is undefeated in his career with 16 fights and 16 civtories. He has five UFC fights that have resulted in three decision and two submission victories.

Simon on the other hand has had a quite different journey in his MMA career. His nine fight UFC journey has included two loses and seven victories, those seven wins coming in the form of two knockouts, one submission, and four decisions. I expect both guys to use their grappling heavy attacks, but I expect Shore to dominate in the end with his brute strength and power.

Prediction: Shore by decision
Best Bet: Shore by decision +165

Ortega vs Rodriguez

Brian Ortega is a menace. Some people might look at his record and think otherwise; He’s lost two of his last three fights, and both in somewhat painful fashion. But both of those fights were against the best featherweights in the world in Max Holloway and Alex Volkanovski. His UFC record against every other fighter is 7-0 with three submissions, three KO’s, and only one decision.

Yair Rodriguez is an extravagant and exciting striker. He can throw all kinds of kicks, punches, and elbows, like this one that finished Chan Sung Jung in the very last moment of the fight. Yair had only one loss coming into his most recent fight with Max Holloway, a fight which he lost by decision.

My point is this; These two fighters are the best of the rest in their division, and there is nothing wrong with that. VOlkanovski and Holloway are the two greatest featherweights to ever live in my opinion, and Ortega and Yair are just around at the wrong time or else they could be champions.

I am betting on Ortega to win this fight. Rodriguez is skilled without a doubt, but Ortega showed more promise against TKZ than Yair did, and Ortega is just overall a more well rounded fighter. I expect Ortega to have trouble in the first round but bounce back and finish Yair via submission in the third round.

Prediction: Ortega by sub or decision
Best Bet: Ortega by sub +200 or decision +275 (both lines have great value)
